Diamond Eden
Mexico's Adults-Only Resort

Allegro's Newest Niche-market Resort Heralds New Choices for Adult Travelers

by Larry Benedict

Located in a pristine area of the Baja on the Sea of Cortez, it is described as "an adults-only resort in an untamed area that tempts the senses. There is even an oasis right in this desert that is just marvelous."

Situated at Loreto less than 2 hours flight from Los Angeles, with one flight each day by AeroCalifornia, Diamond Eden Resort is perfectly situated to draw from the huge adult- oriented tourist base in Southern California. The Resort plans charter flights from Toronto, operated by Signature Vacations and is also looking at Vancouver.

The Adults-only concept, initiated by the legendary Club Meds, has thrived at resorts such as Hedonism in Jamaica and Sandals, but recently has it spread to other chains and other places in significant ways offering more choices and particularly increased luxury at higher rates.

At Diamond Eden the idea is to offer an overwhelming variety of sports and activities included in the room rate, as well meals snacks and unlimited alcoholic beverages. Sports activities, golf, tennis, fishing, sailing, kayaking, scuba and all water activities are supplemented by clothing-optional picnic excursions to secluded islands by catamaran. The two swimming pools have specific purposes, one for activities and the other for relaxation. The hotel also boasts the "hottest hot tub in Baja" able to accommodate more than thirty people.

The Diamond Eden Resort consists of 224 rooms and 21 suites, all air-conditioned featuring private bathroom, telephone, satellite color-television and radio. There are three separate restaurants on the premises beginning with Topacio, the main restaurant offering buffet-style breakfast lunch and dinner. This restaurant is supplemented by La Troje, a Mexican restaurant serving dinner a la carte at two sittings and finally Caruso, serving Italian specialties at two evening sittings. Room service is available with continental breakfast served between 7 and 10 a.m.

The nearby John McEnroe Tennis Center, with stadium tennis courts for unlimited play, also provides steam baths, massage rooms and a swimming pool. Unlimited golf is available at the 18-hole Loreto Golf Course, designed by Mario Schetnan and Pedro Guereca.

Picturesquely situated between the Sierra de la Giganta mountains and the Sea of Cortez the Diamond Eden promises to be an immediate hit. With this resort now open for business, Allegro Resorts has purchased two more hotels in Nuevo Vallarta and Puerto Vallarta. Although these are not yet designated as Adults-only Resorts, the potential is certainly there.
