About Downtown Disney and Pleasure Island

Downtown Disney is a shopping and dining Mecca and is bustling in the evening. Pleasure Island is a Nightclub Theme Park with three dance clubs, two comedy clubs, a jazz club, and disco. Although it is geared for adults, children under 18 may attend if accompanied by a parent. However, consider using the hotel babysitting service ($) for a memorable time. Some of the highlights of the area include:

  • Adventurers Club is a unique bar based on the British hunting clubs of the 30s. There are strange things happening here, including spontaneous comedy routines and seances done by actors disguised as patrons. Local folk enjoy this unusual entertainment.

  • Cirque du Soleil is an amazing and indescribable 90-minute show featuring human beings in acrobatic, contortionist, humorous activities. The talent in a show of this caliber is astounding. The price may astound you as well, but it is something you won't soon forget. (adult $62.00, children must be over 8 years old: $38.00 - as of year 2000)

  • DisneyQuest is five floors and 100,000 square feet of video games ranging from high tech virtual experiences to low tech favorites. There is an admission charge of 25$ (in year 2000) for adults and $20 for children 3-9 which allows you to use all the games. For more information visit www.disneyquest.com or call 407 828-4600.
  • Disney World TIP: If you are from a warm climate state and are visiting Orlando in January or early February, bring jeans and a WARM jacket. When we toured last year in the last week of January the mornings were cold and damp (we live in the Northeast), the days were fairly warm and the nights in the parks were freezing with the wind blowing off the lakes and lagoons. I had insisted on bringing our ski jackets on the plane (husband wanted to leave them in the car at the airport parking lot) and were we glad we had them! Keep in mind that sweatshirts in the parks will usually cost you about $35. If you are freezing you can't enjoy yourself. Plan ahead!
